A Poet’s View
Joseph Prendergast
The Cathedrals of France: A poet’s view
Open this book and gaze at the French Cathedrals through eyes of poet and photographer, Joseph Prendergast. Here is a traveler who is moved by the cathedrals of France. His poems shine a light on the cathedrals of Chartres, Paris, Saint-Denis, Amiens, Beauvais, Reims, and more.
About the Book
The train out of Paris, bound for a cathedral town, rushes through a blur of anticipation. We depart from Paris in the 21st Century and pass through a portal to the Middle Ages.
Here is a world full of sculpture and stained glass, a verticality that uplifts and suspends us in a space between heaven and earth, stones arranged in harmonious lines that reverberate through the centuries, and a luminosity over all that seeks a resting place in the open heart of the pilgrim.
These are the elements that inspired Joseph Prendergast to take the photos and write the poems that appear in this volume.
